Yoga poses are a huge factor in the practice of yoga. Depending on the type of yoga you are doing, will determine the poses that you will learn. Each pose has a different mental and physical benefit attached to it. When combining breathing techniques, meditation, and yoga poses, you will create the union of balance for your mind, body, and soul.
There are countless amounts of yoga poses for all levels of yoga. Beginner yoga poses are for those you have never taken a yoga class or followed a yoga DVD before. These poses are not as intense as many poses are, and concentrate more on breathing during poses and performing the pose correctly. Usually a rest pose is introduced in the beginning of a class. Yoga poses for beginners should introduce the basics to a person, allowing them to go back to a rest pose (Child’s pose) whenever it is needed.
For those who are looking for more advanced yoga poses, intermediate or advanced classes are better suited for you. Advanced yoga poses are based on flexibility and strength. If you have not experienced and mastered a beginner’s class, then an advanced yoga class is not recommended.  If you are not properly trained, you can get injured and seriously hurt.
Birkham yoga poses are done in a heated room. The heat warms the muscles and allows the body to flex and bend more easily. Birkham yoga poses are intense and should never be done in a non heated room.  This type of yoga is safer when done in an instructed class instead of at home. When learning Birkham yoga poses, make sure to stay hydrated and to have a towel nearby. With the added heat, you will sweat quicker and face the possibility of dehydration quicker.
Hatha yoga poses are easier on the body and for the overall health of your body, mind, and soul. Hatha yoga is the base for many other types of yoga such as Power Yoga and Kundalini Yoga. Posture is a major aspect of yoga poses, and must be maintained throughout the class. Many poses will help with posture and will actually be seen in results outside of class.
Yoga poses should be carefully thought out and performed just as they are taught. If you have any issues with a yoga pose while in class, a great tip is to look at other students and follow what they are doing.
